Mid-Year Symposium

I attended the mid year symposium and from a presentaion about airlines i found out that ever since september 11 tragic, air marshals fly with us unidentified.

i learned that rap music was orginated from the Bronx New York

i learned that the timeline for rap music began since 1970

disco music also started in 1970 and came from Shy Town Chicago

i learned fromo the boys and girls club that 76% always feel safe at the Club, as compared with 46% in their neighborhood

Progress on Critical Argument

Well at first i was struggling to find a topic but now that had to find so many sources, reading through all the articles, expanded my train of thoughts so now i have alot more ideas and how to elaborate on my topic.

Hip Hop Life

In this reading, DeSean "Puffy" Combs says a couple direct thoughts that really connect with me.Basically he is saying when you want something, you need to strive for it. First one is "you can come from nothing but still amount to something." Theres nobody that was born as a start right from the jump. they need to work for it. he came from nothing to become something. In this other one, he is reffereing to kids or people in the ghetto but i think it still can reflect to everybody. He says "..anything to get you out, you're going to do." a person has to dedicate themselves to what they want to succeed in life with. they have to risk it for what they want.

Reading

The Jon Stewart commencement address really stood out to me because the way he used sarcasm and humor to bring foward his statement, is different from other speeches. i think he could set an example for other people that want or need to do speeches. Where he said college is something you complete connects to how some people see college now. Some people only want to go catch a degree and not experience college life.

Group Project

Our group project is coming along just fine,for now. We chose already who is explaining what part in our presentation. My part is to explain "what are secondary sources".(any ideas?). i got a list put together already,so tomorrow we can discuss it. Tomorrow we will talk about how we will present,what order,what goes where and what not, etc. i feel we can seal the deal tomorrow in class and have a good overall presentation that the explanation will resonate with the class on monday.
